Certification in Ontario
CDPCBO will cease accepting new applications for certification and recertification on February 15, 2025.
If you are not currently certified in Ontario as a CCDP but want to receive the designation, you have two choices.
One:
- You can certify with CDPCBO until February 15, 2025.
- This means you must have completed all the requirements for certification as it presently stands by that time.

- If you require the two courses, Career Development Theory and Ethics, we will continue to offer those courses along with all the other approved training providers on our website. Professional Development Courses -CDPCBO
- We will process your application and if successful, you will receive your designation valid until December 31, 2028
- Then you will apply for transfer/legacy to national certification
- Your subsequent date for recertification of December 31, 2028, will be recognized by the national body.
Two:
- You can directly apply to start the process of national certification as of December 1, 2024.

Certification is voluntary in Ontario. Certification is a formal recognition of CDPs’ skills, knowledge and experience; thereby, raising the professional profile of the career development field.
Criteria for CDP certification in Ontario was developed by a Stewardship Committee consisting of a diverse group of stakeholders. This committee did extensive research into other models and consulted with career development practitioners. CDPCBO was selected by the Stewardship group to govern and administer the application and certification process for Ontario career development practitioners.
Certification is based on the National Standards and Guidelines for Career Development Practitioners.
The Certification review team is comprised of peers from within the career development community who have been trained in the certification criteria and requirements. The reviewers have expertise in diverse areas in the field such as front-line practitioners, program managers, training and leadership, researchers, product developers or consultants.
