The Career Development Practitioner Certification Board of Ontario (CDPCBO) is a not-for-profit corporation established in 2014 with a mandate to govern, administer and monitor the Ontario Certified Career Development Practitioner Model. The organization has been at the forefront of providing certification and re-certification for career practitioners throughout the province of Ontario. It also provides educational opportunities by delivering professional development courses to Career Development Practitioners across the field.
You may have heard that in the near future certification of Career Development Practitioners will move from a provincially-based process to a national level. The CDPCBO is considering its future direction, with one option being the creation of a professional association representing both certified and non-certified Career Development Practitioners in Ontario.
“A professional association is an organization with members who work in or share an interest in a specific job field or industry. Members of professional associations will often meet regularly to discuss upcoming news in their field, host events for members as well as provide networking and professional development opportunities for its members”.
Currently, CDPCBO is in the unique position among the provincial organizations representing Certified and uncertified Career Development Practitioners in that it IS NOT a professional association. All other provincial certifying bodies are also professional associations. Some of the services offered by these provincial associations include: periodic newsletters, annual conferences, professional development training, job boards for members to post resumes and employers to list jobs, mentoring, advocacy, reduced rates for insurance, etc.
We would like you to help us determine our next steps. CDPCBO is surveying individuals and organizations in Career Development across Ontario to find out if there is interest for a uniquely Ontario professional organization. CDPs in Ontario have had province-wide professional associations in the past, however they no longer exist today.
